DENTURES CAUSING BONE LOSS
What most people don't know is that dentures cause BONE LOSS. This is due to constant pressure exerted by the denture onto the underlying bone which causes it to resorb. For patients who lost teeth but don't wear removable full or partial dentures, they would usually have much better bone in that area.
This is a great example how dentures causes bone loss. This patient has had denture implant placed on the lower right side and wears partial dentures on his lower left side. The bone on the lower right side posterior to the lower right dental implants did not experience much bone loss, however, the the lower left side where the removable partial dentures is have a great deal of bone loss.
